What’s happening in October in St Andrews?

The weather may have turned but that’s no excuse to stay indoors this October as St Andrews plays host to a range of events to get you out and about this autumn. From sports and celebrities to singing and shopping; St Andrews has something for everyone this month as always, so dig out your warm coat and maybe even a scarf as you brave the elements to enjoy all St Andrews has to offer this October.

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

Alfred Dunhill ChampionshipSt Andrews is renowned the world over as the golfing capital of Britain and this month sees our famous courses play host to not just the world’s best professional golfers but also a wealth of celebrity amateurs too. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is played in Scotland every year as professionals and celebrities partner up and play what is often considered the most purest form of the game; links golf.

This year the event will take place from the 5th to the 8th and entrance to the first three days is free. Golfing fans will get the chance to see the likes of Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Branden Grace play alongside celebrities who love the game. This year the tournament has attracted names from all over the world of sport such as Vladimir Klitschko, Kevin Pieterson and Sir Steve Redgrave as well as actors such as Greg Kinnear and singers such as Ronan Keating. You are bound to know at least one famous face as you watch them make their way around three of St Andrews’ beautiful golf courses.

Pop up sale

If you have lost your other half to the golf or are the eternal bargain hunter then head to St Andrews town hall on Saturday 7th October between 10am and 5pm. Some of St Andrews’ most loved and unique businesses will be hosting a pop up sale on the ground floor and showing off their bespoke products. Grab a bargain and discover a new business as you peruse the products on offer- save the date and tell a friend as supporting local business is vital in order to keep our high streets varied and successful.

St Andrews Voices

For music lovers this month, St Andrews presents Scotland’s only festival dedicated solely to the voice and vocal music. St Andrews Voices is a celebration of the versatility and beauty of the human voice and holds a range of events and concerts over three days and nights which the entire family will enjoy.

All genres of music are celebrated from pop and choral to cabaret and cappella as you are invited to listen and sing along to music from every era. From the 26th to the 29th there will be a variety of events as part of the festival such as a Disney Frozen sing along on the Saturday and a festival service with St Salvator’s Chapel Choir on the Sunday.

Craigtoun Halloween event

Craigtoun Country Park will hold a Halloween event on the 28th October which will include a fancy dress parade, lantern competition and spooky stories. There will also be Dinner with the Dead and a kids disco. You need to buy your tickets in advance but under 3’s do go free.

With all this going on within the month of October, there’s certainly enough to keep you busy right through until Halloween.
