What’s on in St Andrews in June 2020

Where better to kick-start your summer than in picturesque St Andrews? It is the ideal place whether you’re looking for a seaside break or for a holiday with rolling, lush, green landscapes. The weather is starting to warm up in June and we’ve pulled together a ‘things to do’ list which will help you make the most of being outside (on a side note St Andrews is lovely whatever the temperature!)

Beach Life

The stunning stretch of sand that is West Sands Beach is popular with families, pet owners, groups of friends and surfers. You may find that you recognise some of the landscape along the beach and you’d be right to think so- especially if you have seen the film Chariots of Fire, where one of the stars was indeed St Andrews West Sands Beach.

The beach is a great day out, whether you want to just put a towel down and enjoy the view or you want to take in a water sport. If there are members of your party who have additional mobility needs, they can continue to enjoy the beach by hiring a beach wheelchair.

Craigtoun Country Park

A mere 4 miles away from St Andrews is Craigtoun Country Park. The Park has a number of activities and attractions that will keep the whole family entertained. Children can work off their energy on either the adventure play area, zip lines or the trim trail. Admission to the park is free as is many of the areas, however there may be a small charge for seasonal attractions such as The Boating Lake, Crazy Golf and Tractor Rides.

Parking is free at the Park and you can choose to either bring a picnic or see what’s on the menu at the onsite Café.

Alternatively, if you’d like to experience the outdoors a little closer to home, both Cambo Gardens and the St Andrews Botanic Garden offer an experience to remember. The gardens at Cambo have been described as magical and you’ll be rewarded with your woodland walk by finishing at the Cambo’s award winning beach! If you’re interested in exotic creatures, the Tropical Butterfly experience is a must visit at the Botanic Garden.

Food and Drink

St Andrews has a range of dining venues that can sweeten even the fussiest of taste buds. Local eateries are keen to make the most of the wonderful local produce, introducing you to both traditional and new flavours. If you like your food served with history and anecdotes, book yourself onto the ‘Eat, Walk, St Andrews Food Tour’

Why not try your hand at wine tasting so that you can add a special dimension to your next meal in St Andrews? Join the Australian Classics Wine tasting session at best western scores hotel on 26th June.

St Andrews Cathedral

With the weather improving, it is an ideal opportunity to visit St Rules Tower at St Andrews Cathedral so that you can enjoy breath-taking views, taking in all of St Andrews in its glory.

Theatre

Finally, if you’re looking for a way to wind down in the evening, why not take a trip to the Byre Theatre for some music, comedy or drama. There’s sure to be something to suit your tastes. You can find the programme of events listed here.
