What’s on in St Andrews in the month of October
Just because the summer is finally over that doesn’t mean you need to hibernate. There is still lots to do and see and plenty of reasons to get out and about this month so let’s look at what’s on.
St Andrews Golf Week
Hot on the heels of the Ryder Cup comes the annual Golf Week, from 14th to 20th of October, where you can follow in the footsteps of the victorious European team and play to your heart’s content at 5 different courses. You could even play a round at one of the most iconic courses in the world, the Old Course. Golfing aficionados can take advantage of, amongst other things, 4 days of tuition from PGA professionals, competitions and a grand gala dinner just to round off the week. Golf Week is suitable for golfers of all levels, from novice to expert and all can enjoy the unique atmosphere of the legendary links which have played host to golfing luminaries such as Tiger Woods, Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo to name just a few.
St Andrews Voices
From the 25th to the 28th of October why not immerse yourself in music with the annual St Andrews Voices concerts celebrating many different styles of vocal musicality such as jazz, contemporary, choral, opera, a capella and much more. The festival, on during the day and into the night is a feast for the ears for all music lovers.
Shopping in and around St Andrews
Whether you are looking to start your Christmas shopping or you just love a little retail therapy there are plenty of exciting outlets for this in the St Andrews area. Artery St Andrews is a lovely traditional old shop selling unique handmade crafts, jewellery and home wares. For unusual pottery items Wemyss Ware is worth a visit while Blacketyside Farm Shop in Fife is open all year round for their specialist soft fruit products. There are also several shopping centres to choose from around the Fife area.
Horse Riding in Fife
Even though the best of the summer weather is behind us October can still bring us some lovely days so when better to get outdoors and brush up on your equestrian skills. Barbarafield Riding Centre offers hacks on farm land and lessons for those aged 5 and upwards. Highfield Equestrian at Ladybank offers excellent facilities, tuition and livery for experienced horse owners and novice riders alike.
Halloween Events in St Andrews
This the spookiest time of the year again and St Andrews has loads of events planned to celebrate the annual spookfest! One of the biggest of these is the Craigtoun Halloween Event at Craigtoun Country Park on Saturday October 27th which offers treats for all the family. Forgan’s and Friends invites you to dress in your scariest costume to hit the trick or treat trail on the weekend of 27th/28th October.
