What’s on in St Andrews in April 2020

Whatever you’re into, St Andrews is a town brimming with opportunities to excite, surprise and inspire. This April immerse yourself in one of the many wonderful events and make your visit to our picturesque town one to remember for years to come. We’ve pulled together some of the goings on in St Andrews over the next month so you can get stuck in as soon as possible.

Scotland’s Daffodil Festival

St Andrews is lucky to be surrounded by equally lovely towns which is handy if you’re looking to explore a bit further. This April take a 30 min drive from St Andrews to Cupar where the Backhouse Rossie Estate will be hosting Scotland’s Daffodil Festival on 11th and 12th April. The festival celebrates everything that is special about this beautiful flower, including a walk through its history and an introduction to the many varieties. Members of the Royal Horticultural Society will be on hand to deliver talks and offer expert information. If you’d like to try your hand at growing your own daffodils, you will have an impressive range to choose from. The festival also includes a variety of other activities to make sure everyone has an enjoyable day.

Easter Fun

You can’t spend April in St Andrews without including an Easter themed activity or two as part of your itinerary– especially if chocolate is involved! Combine some historical fact finding and discovery with Easter fun at St Andrews Castle; the Castle is taking part in the Easter Eggsploration activities that are being run across Scotland. Between 10th and 13th April, for no additional cost, visitors to the Castle can take part in the hunt for eggs whilst taking in the Castle ruins in all its glory. A great event to get involved in if you’ve got young ones with you.

Cambolicious

On 11th April, the Cambo House opens its doors for the return of its popular festival which celebrates locally produced craft beer, cider and Gin. The festival is a fantastic family day out with activities and workshops to suit all ages. There will be live music, food and of course plenty of local drink to tickle those tastebuds. Furthermore, if you like what the Cambo house has to offer, you can always return the next day for the 2020 WedFest which is free entry.

St Andrews Food and Drink Festival

St Andrews boasts delicious locally sourced food and drink. The festival, which is being held on 18th April, is an ideal opportunity for visitors to experience the culinary world in St Andrews. Full details about the festival are yet to be revealed, but if this sounds like it is right up your street, keep checking the Food from Fife website for further information.

Literary Fever

April sees the arrival of a number of authors to St Andrews. The local Toppings and Company bookshop is hosting a myriad of events across the month with the likes of Robert Webb, George Packer, and Patrick Laurie bringing their books and special insights into their works. Take part in an evening of discussion, debate and discovery and if you prefer, have your book signed as well!
