What’s on in St Andrews during July 2018

With summer finally here, it’s time to get out in the open and enjoy the sunshine and St Andrews has plenty on offer for a fun-filled adventure. Whether you’re looking for a summer fair, an educational trip or even a musical extravaganza, with the variety on offer in the community of St Andrews there truly is something for everyone.

Antique, collectors and vintage fair- a collectors day out

For those that love a gem from the past or a collector’s item then the antique, collectors and vintage fair seems the ideal place to pick up something new to you. The fair is being held at St Andrews’ town hall on Saturday the 14th of July, from 10 am until 4 pm. Admission is £1 for adults, 75p for seniors and students and children are free.

Counterfeit – The Swinging Sixties

For one night only, sixties tribute acts are hitting the Byre Theatre for a night to remember, celebrating everything from the sixties including music and fashion, TV history and popular culture. The counterfeit sixties have years of experience working within the music industry and across the UK enabling them to provide a whole night of entertainment. So, get into the groove and get down to the beat of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Dave Clark Five and many others. Tickets are priced at £20/£21, doors open at 19:30 on Saturday the 14th of July.

The Night Market- A fun filled evening for all the family 

The famous night market is back at the Balgove Larder, offering a night of musical entertainment, local craft stalls, street food and the ever-popular steak barn grill. This fun-filled family event takes place on Tuesday the 17th of July from 5 pm until 9 pm. 

The St Andrews Harbour Gala- family event

A definite date for your diary is the St Andrews Harbour gala, a family event that will be packed full of fun and entertainment for all. With a children’s fair to keep the kids happy and a beer tent to keep the adults happy what more could you ask for? The event will also come alive with a band, entertainment and gala stalls. This family-friendly event is free taking place on the 21st of July from 11 am to 5 pm.

From Fatigues to Battle Dress-bringing history to life

Step back in time and grab the nearest weapon and amour, because King James in on the lookout for soldiers for his invasion of England. St Andrews castle is playing host to a day of history focusing on the fashion of the solider.  Come along and enjoy a history lesson and even get dressed up for a day of fun! Admission is free for members, with the event taking place on the 28th of July from 12 pm.

The tropical Butterfly experience- the butterfly house

Running throughout July until October, the Botanic Gardens are home to a tropical butterfly house. Come and learn fun facts about their life cycle and their importance within nature. Admission is £2.95 with under 3’s going free.

St Andrews Land Train Tour- See the town in style

The land train is the perfect way to explore the modern town of St Andrews.  The 40-minute tour starting at the Bruce Embankment follows a route around the old castle and cathedral, the harbour and Blackfriars Chapel giving people the option to hop and off throughout the day to explore different areas of the town. Under 2’s travel for free, children under 16 years old are £3.00 per ticket and adults are £7, and family tickets are also available. Please visit their Facebook page for more information.
