What to do in St Andrews in August

Here in St Andrews, August marks the beginning of a new school year and the end of the summer holidays. However, we are still host to many visiting families as the schools in England are still off. Therefore there are still many local events in and around St Andrews all throughout August, many of which are definitely not to be missed. Here’s your round-up of the biggest events in St Andrews this August.

Pittenweem Arts Festival

Beginning on the 5th August and running all the way through until the 13th, Pittenweem is celebrating their annual arts festival. Currently at least 30 artists are resident in the village of Pittenweem with even more habiting the local fishing villages along the beautiful East Neuk Coastline. Over the 9 days of the festival, resident artists, newcomers and invited artists will be exhibiting in homes, studios, public spaces and galleries throughout Pittenweem and its neighbouring villages.

Guests at the festival will be invited to a wide range of activities such as exhibitions, talks, workshops and performances from some of the artists. There will also be a range of children’s events all related to the arts- perfect for any budding young Picasso. All exhibitions have free entre and will be open daily from 10am-5pm.

St Andrews Lammas Market

If you are looking for a fun day out for the whole family then the St Andrews Lammas Market is the one. The market is the oldest surviving medieval market and is going to be visiting St Andrews across the weekend beginning the Friday 11th until Tuesday the 15th. Come on down to the market and feast on an array of mouth-watering street food before perusing the huge variety of market stalls including the continental market. To keep the kids happy Lammas Market will also feature its own fun fair with ride for all the kids and adults too. St Andrews Lammas Market will be open from 11am until 11pm each day so either bring the kids for a day of fun or visit the market in the evening for a completely different kind of evening out.

The Night Market

If you are after an evening out with a difference then the Nigh Market is back this August on the Tuesday 22nd. There will be a huge array of BBQ and street food alongside plenty of stalls to grab a drink. The new covered veranda will keep you dry in case the usual Scottish Summer strikes and there’s a sudden downpour. It wouldn’t be a Night Market without some live music so of course that will be included. A different kind of evening out in St Andrews but one you will most definitely enjoy.

Antique, Collectors and Vintage Fair

St Andrews Town Hall will host the Antiques, collectors and vintage fair on the 26th August for anyone who is a fan of antiques. Whether you are an avid collector or simply looking for an interesting day out; the fair has something for everyone. Starting at 10am and finishing at 5pm you can pop down at any point and be sure to find a little something that grabs the eye.

Whether you’re visiting St. Andrews in the English school holidays, or looking for things to do at the weekend, there’s no reason not to enjoy the exciting events above.

If you’re looking for accommodation we have our Coach Houses, a Lodge with 3 bedrooms, and a 2 bedroom apartment in the centre of St Andrews.
